Weavers’ Court embraces vintage fashions and memorabilia

Residents at the £7m Weavers’ Court Extra Care scheme went back in time this weekend, to host a Vintage Fair celebrating decades past.

They were joined by members of the local community in Alnwick, all welcomed into the scheme to enjoy the event.

A fascinating collection of stalls filled the main lounge, a memory corner was set up with memory boxes borrowed from Alnwick’s Bailiffgate Museum, and a female vocal trio known as the Darling Dollies provided entertainment for all the guests.

Particularly successful features of the afternoon were a plant stall and afternoon teas with delicious cakes made in the Weavers’ café.

The Darling Dollies performed the most popular songs from their repertoire of 1940s close harmony singing.

Visitors were also able to get a tour of the Weavers’ Court show apartment to see how Extra Care living works.

Liz Pratt, activities coordinator at Weavers’ Court, said: “We like to put on a wide variety of activities for our residents, and for the wider community. Since we have residents here with memories dating right back to the 1930s, we thought a Vintage Fair would be a great opportunity for a bit of reminiscence.”
