Something new is coming to Stanley Front Street

Something new is coming to Stanley Front Street

It’s been, quite literally, years in the making, but we’re finally here and ready to reveal the work that’s been happening at our premises on Stanley Front Street.

Previously known as The Store, a Derwentside Homes asset, the building stood empty due a number of structural issues. After lots of hard work it’s transformation is nearly complete and the premises will be re-opening in the coming months as Karbon’s Foundations Skills Hub.

The building is split in to three sections. The main area will be home to our Foundations for Life Team. From here the team will have a base to provide a whole range of learning and support to both Karbon customers and non customers living in Stanley and the surrounding areas of North Durham.

From digital skills coaching and literacy and numeracy tuition, to wellbeing support and employment advice, we hope this hub will provide a comfortable welcoming environment where customers can engage with us on one to one basis.

At the back of the main area there is a large training room where the team, as well as partners from the community, can deliver more formal training and run courses. There are also a couple of smaller meeting rooms with comfy seats that will provide a more private place to meet.

The second section of the building will be home to our Silver Talk service, a place where our volunteers can come to make their calls and touch base with our co-ordinators.

This area has been made possible thanks to funding support from Mid Durham, Stanley and Derwent Valley AAPs, as well as corporate partners, Travis Perkins and City Electrical Factors, and will allow us to take on more community volunteers, which will ensure this invaluable service can reach even more people across the North East.

The area will also have a number of desks and booths where colleagues from our other Karbon teams can work from, helping to strengthen our presence in the local area.

The final section of the building will be home to the North East First Credit Union. With its own signage and a separate entrance. The Credit Union offers a selection of financial support, including providing loans that compete against the high cost credit that can have a really detrimental impact of people’s financial situations.

A big thank you to our partners, Design North, Albany Contract Furniture, and The Works, who are helping us to bring the Foundations Skills Hub to life.
