Work to start on new affordable homes in North Yorkshire village

Construction work is about to begin on 21 new affordable homes in the attractive, historic village of Brompton, North Yorkshire.

Housing association Karbon Homes is behind the project which will provide a mix of high quality two and three bedroom homes.

The development is located in the centre of Brompton at Danes Crest, between Cockpit Hill and Lead Lane and will meet the urgent need for smaller, more affordable homes in the area. The building of the new homes has been welcomed by Hambleton District Council.

The project will provide 2 two-bedroom bungalows, 11 two-bed houses and 9 three-bed houses, ideal for young families. The homes will be a mixture of Affordable Rent and Rent to Buy properties.

Entrance to the 0.48 hectare site will be off Danelaw Road and will be set back to create a spacious, welcoming opening to the development.

Six of the 18 garages at the entrance of the site, which are owned by Muir Housing Group, will be demolished to allow space for access.

The energy efficient homes have been designed by Edwards Architecture to be long lasting and sustainable. There will be a mix of semi-detached and terraced designs, ensuring the character of the village is maintained and the development aligns with other nearby dwellings. The use of stone, terracotta tiles, red brick and render will also be referenced in the new homes at Danes Crest.

Each home includes a private garden and dedicated car parking spaces. The two bed houses will be allocated one car parking space while the bungalows and three bed houses will each be allocated two car parking spaces. There will also be nine visitor spaces. The development will benefit from easy pedestrian access to the village’s shops and services and excellent connections to public transport to travel further afield.

Brompton Community Primary School is less than a five minute walk from the development and there are convenience stores and a selection of public houses in the village too. Northallerton is only five minutes away by bus providing residents with access to a range of shops and restaurants and an East Coast mainline train station. Darlington and Middlesbrough are about 25 mins drive away.

Ged Walsh, director of development at Karbon Homes, said: “Our development at Danes Crest will provide much needed high quality homes for local people and families and addresses the shortage of smaller, more affordable homes in the district. We identified a particular need for this type of housing in Brompton, with the majority of homes available on the Rent to Buy scheme, which will help potential buyers into home ownership.

“The development will be managed by our partners at York Housing Association and will support Hambleton District Council’s strategic housing market assessment of providing homes for future generations.”

Councillor David Webster, the portfolio holder for planning from Hambleton District Council, said: “The council welcomes the start of construction for this new housing scheme. It will provide much needed affordable accommodation in Brompton for local people. I look forward to seeing this progress over the coming months.”

The main contractor for the site is Gus Robinson Developments and work is expected to be completed in autumn 2021.
