What happens next?

Applications for our 12 apprentices positions closed on Sunday and we were over the moon with the number of applications we’ve received.

We’d like to thank everyone for their interest in the positions, and here’s a quick update on the next steps in the process.

To deliver the 12 apprenticeships we have partnered with three colleges, all of which have different approaches to recruitment.

Each of the colleges will be assessing candidates on the following criteria;

  • Motivated with a commitment to learn new skills and gain a qualification
  • Able to multi task –  having good organisation and planning

If you applied for;

  • Communities
  • New Homes Development
  • Housing

Your apprenticeship will be with Derwentside College

We have been sending applications over to Derwentside College since the positions opened and they have been shortlisting as they go. You may have already heard from the college if you applied for one of these positions early on, but if you haven’t don’t worry they are still shortlisting over the next couple of weeks.

You will be contacted directly, via telephone or email.

Stage 1

You will be invited for a shortlisting interview. For Housing & Communities roles, the interviews will be face to face at the college campus in Consett. For the New Homes Development role this will be completed over the telephone.

Once you have completed your interview, you will then be asked to complete a Functional Skills test; this helps the college to get a good understanding of your levels of English and Maths to ensure they provide you with the right level of support if you were offered the apprenticeship.

Stage 2

The college will then decide on the final 5 candidates for each of the posts. If you have made it to the final shortlist you will then be contacted by Karbon who will then invite you to an assessment centre day at our offices. This will take place w/c 9th September.

If you applied for

  • Communications and Marketing
  • Finance
  • Customer Service

Your apprenticeship will be with Gateshead College

When the positions closed, Karbon Homes sent all anonymous application information to Gateshead College. The college will be carrying out interviews with all candidates over the telephone, so if you’ve not already heard from them, expect a call over the next two weeks.

Within the shortlisting interview the college will be covering the following topics:

  • If the candidate is able to attend the college and workplace
  • Can the candidate complete the qualification
  • What does the candidate know about Karbon Homes (hint, do some research!)
  • A couple of questions regarding the job advert criteria

At this stage the college will then invite you to complete a functional skills test. This will help the college to determine your levels of English, Maths and ICT.

When all candidates have been interviewed, the college will shortlist 5 candidates for each of the posts. The final candidates will then be invited for an assessment centre day at Karbon’s offices.

If you have been unsuccessful, Karbon’s Foundations for Life team will contact you to make you aware and offer you further support and information about other opportunities in your area.
