It matters to natter

Do you ever feel like you could do with a friendly chat? A relaxed telephone call with someone who you can share your day with?

Whether you, a family member, or a neighbour is  going through a tough time, or could do with a new friend to chat to, why not join our Karbon customers who use our free telephone befriending service, Silver Talk? 

Here, service user Catherine explains more...

 

Catherine's story:

"I was first introduced to my Silver Talk friend Linda, two years ago when my life was somewhat upside down. 

"We had our first conversation after I'd had help to leave my husband after suffering from domestic abuse. I'd been rehomed in a Karbon property in a new town where I didn't know anyone. I was lonely and I needed a friend to talk to and thanks to Linda, someone was there. 

"That weekly phone call helped make me feel so much better. It have me something to nice to look forward to each week and the benefit of the conversation lasted much, much longer than the call itself.

"It meant so much to have a conversation with someone who I could feel relaxed and comfortable with. It sounds so simple but just being able to talk to someone on a nice, friendly basis was quite life changing. I cannot put in to words what it meant - and still means - to have a kind voice on the other end of the phone.

"We have build a wonderful relationship and Linda reminds me how far I've come since our first conversation. having someone to chat to has reminded me that there are still lots of things I'd like to do in my life and made me more positive.

"I'd encourage anyone to give Silver Talk a try - what have you got to lose? It can be a big step to reach out for a bit of support but it's well worth the initial effort. Everyone's reason for getting involved is different. You don't necessarily need to be trying to get back on your feet, like me. Even if you just want someone friendly to chat to, it can make the world of difference.

"If I could, I'd buy a fabulous thank you gift for Linda, but she says knowing how much she has helped to change my life is worth more than anything money can buy."

 

Silver Talk: The basics:

Free weekly calls from a volunteer for up to 30 minutes.

How does it work?

1. Sign up and register your interest via email or telephone - or register someone who you think would benefit.

2. We ask you a few questions

3. We match you with a volunteer

4. We'll give you a call and get things started
