Could you be just the help the Happy Wanderers luncheon club needs?
The weekly lunchtime club which runs from Karbon’s Auckland Communal Rooms in Chester-le-Street, is calling on the help of the local community to keep its lunchtime food and activities going in to the future.
Due to a number of unavoidable reasons, such as illness and injury, the club, which takes place each Wednesday, has become short of volunteers to help out.
Could you give any of your time to volunteer and help keep it running?
Whether you can help out on a weekly basis, or you can only commit to once or twice a month, everyone’s help is greatly appreciated and vital to keeping the club going for the many older residents of Chester-le-Street who enjoy attending.
Paul Hadden, Karbon’s Community Connector for the Chester-le-Street area, said: “The Happy Wanderers luncheon club is a fantastic group which came to Karbon about 4 years ago having had to move out of their previous location due to increased prices for hire.
"Karbon was able to offer the group the Wednesday lunchtime slot at Auckland Communal Rooms free of charge, which meant the club could keep going.
“Since being there the group has grown and grown. Not only have they bought a large fridge/freezer and double cooker for the communal room, they've turn out every Christmas day to prepare a Christmas lunch for those less fortunate or for those who have no family.”
“It would be heart breaking to see the club disappear. I would urge residents of Chester-le-Street to consider supporting the club, even if you can only commit to once a month you’ll be making a world of difference.”
