Attention parents of Meadow Well and North Shields!
Karbon has partnered with Cedarwood Trust to offer you the opportunity to take part in their latest community training project ‘Introduction to Community Organising’.
The course will give 15 parents from the local area the chance to come together and learn how they can take action against common concerns that themselves and their families face in the community.
Starting on Tuesday 9th April at the Cedarwood Centre, day one of the course will cover what community organising is, the importance of listening, what power is and why it is important in communities, how to motivate others within the communities to take action, and what are the next steps in organising social action.
Day two of the training will focus on the skill of listening in a community organising role and will develop communication skills, and on completion of the two days participants will be awarded an attendance certificate in ‘Community Organising’.
Wayne Dobson, Chief Executive Officer for the Cedarwood Trust said: “The project has been developed as a response to parents from our nursery, Wor Bairns, and the centre’s Parents Plus project, wanting to develop increased opportunities for their children in the local community through exploring, with others, the aspirations and needs of residents in terms of play facilities and opportunities for children and young people.
Karbon Homes has awarded the Cedarwood Trust £922 from its grant funding stream to support the delivery of the training.
Wayne added: “We’re incredibly grateful to Karbon for its support and we want to encourage Karbon customers to get involved with the project and sign up to the two day course. We have places available and are looking forward to introducing new parents, with new perspectives and outlooks, to the group.”
Cedarwood Trust is a community development charity working on the Meadow Well estate in North Tyneside. The charity works to enhance the existing resources within the community in order to make a lasting difference to those who live in the area, whilst building confidence and raising aspirations.
