Save on water
Northumbrian Water customers should check out the SupportPlus tariff. You could reduce your current water bill by as much as 50%, if your household income is less than £16,105 and your annual water bill is more than 3% of your total household income after housing costs.
Email SupportPLUS@nwl.co.uk or call 0345 733 5566. If you pay water rates as part of your rent we can make the tariff application for you, speak to the Money Matters Team.

Feel the warmth of an energy grant!
The British Gas Energy Trust provides grants that are open to anyone in debt to their energy supplier – you don’t even have to be a British Gas customer! Other energy suppliers offering grants specifically for their customers include EDF, E.on Npower, Ovo, Scottish Power and SSE. Visit www.lets-talk.online/Home/AllSchemes

Heard of Winter fuel payments?
As long as you’re at least the qualifying age for Pension Credit you could get an annual one-off payment to help pay for heating during the winter. If you’re eligible you’ll usually receive this benefit automatically, but if you don’t, you can make a claim at www.gov.uk/winter-fuel-payment

Struggling to heat your home in the colder months?
Well, if you’re on a low income, you could get £140 off your electricity bill under the Warm Home Discount scheme. This is a one-off discount on your electricity bill between September and March. Not all suppliers offer this but it’s well worth giving yours a call to check; it might be another reason to switch and find a better deal. Don’t just turn your heating off to save money as this can cause damage to your pipes. Find out more at www.gov.uk/the-warm-home-discount-scheme
