Colleen the Vintage Belle performs outside Weavers’ Court Extra Care in Alnwick
Colleen keeps Weavers’ Court smiling
The residents of Weavers’ Court Extra Care in Alnwick celebrated VE Day last week with a lively performance from a singer performing hit songs from the 1940s and 1950s.
‘Colleen the vintage belle’ spread a lot of happiness as she performed in a period military uniform.
The Weaver’s Court building on Swordy Drive, run by Karbon Homes and housing 58 apartments, has had to be closed to visitors for several weeks now during the coronavirus outbreak.
The residents in the apartments have been asked to isolate away from their neighbours, without the usual programme of events that would normally run in Weavers’ Court every week.
The popular café has also had to be closed, other than providing takeaway meals to be delivered to residents’ doors.
Nina Blair, the activities coordinator at Weavers’ Court, said: “When we originally looked at organising a VE Day celebration back in January, we were looking at a ‘street party’ style event in our lounge and café, and we booked Colleen to sing for us way back then.
“Obviously due to the current circumstances we had to move to a Plan B and Colleen kindly agreed to perform outside the building.
“The residents really enjoyed the show. Colleen performed at four different spots around the building to ensure everybody got to hear.
“It was great to see so many of our residents enjoying the entertainment from their windows, balconies and patio doors.”
