Fearless Finances

Wednesday, 16th September 2020

Have your finances and employment been affected by Covid-19? Fear not. Our Money Matters and Foundations for Life Teams are helping many customers get things back on track and they’re here for you too.

Maybe you or a member of your household has been made redundant or you’re adapting to reduced hours and lower income. Perhaps you need to claim Universal Credit for the first time or you’re confused by changes to the benefits process. Whatever your circumstances, Karbon is here to help.

Want tips and tricks to make your money work for you?

Then sign up for Money Works 2020, a four-week online programme designed to make your money go further. As well as practical ideas you’ll get:

• £10 voucher after week two, to put what you’ve learnt into practice
• £15 voucher after all four sessions.

Plus entry into a prize draw to win a slow cooker. Sessions last an hour and are held over Skype so
you’ll need access to the internet.

Master those online interviews.

Even before Covid-19, many companies were beginning to embrace online interviewing using apps and pre-recorded questions, but lockdown meant it has now become the new normal.

This new way of doing things can feel daunting, so why not sign-up for our online interview workshop. Lasting just 60 minutes, it's designed to leave you feeling properly prepared and ready to make your mark. You’ll even be offered an online interview trial so you can test your environment and device before the real thing.

Your Work -By Lee Forrest, Money Matters Team Manager

A change in income can feel frightening but you aren’t alone. Our friendly Money Matters Team can provide free and impartial advice to help you understand your new financial situation and what you can do to improve it.

We’ve assisted 1,546 customers since lockdown began, and last year we helped customers gain over £6 million in extra income. We can carry out a benefit check to make sure you’re not missing out on income that you’re entitled to.

We’ll help you to navigate the benefits system and give you some simple tips on budgeting or more specialist guidance on debt management so you can make the most of what you have coming in. If you’re new to Universal Credit we’ll help you understand the basics and explain how to put in your first claim.

It’s also really important to note that Karbon has promised no one will be evicted because of Covid-19. If you are worried about paying your rent, please call us so that we can talk to you about how we can help with this. Turn to page 3 for more information about your options.

Congratulation's Stephanie!

Stephanie worked with Foundation's for Life's Graeme Welsh to get a new, full-time job in retail management.

She said: “Thank you so much for all your help and support, you gave me the confidence to get my new job as assistant manager. I never dreamed someone like me could get a job like this – for that I’m so greatly thankful. I was in a job that I really wasn’t happy with it had knocked my confidence terribly, but now I feel I’m ready for this new challenge.”
