Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week - Ben Bye

Our next apprentice who we are profiling as part of National Apprenticeship Week this week, is Ben Bye, an ICT apprentice working within the ICT Technical Services Team at our Bowes office.

Ben Bye apprentice

Ben, 23, works four days a week at Karbon and one day a week studying his apprenticeship foundation degree Level 4 & 5 at New College Durham.

He started his Advanced Apprenticeship, Level 3 in IT and Telecoms while working at Cestria Community Housing (one of the three companies which merged to form Karbon Homes) in December 2015.

During his time, Ben has been able to get valuable on the job training while carrying out his studies and it's been a great platform for him to learn new skills when the infrastructure for three organisations have come together to form one large organisation.

Ben commented: "I have always been interested in the technology behind computers and my apprenticeship has been able to give me the opportunity to learn about the different aspects of IT infrastructure.

"I'm still not sure what area I'd like to specialise in but the networking side of this work interests me a lot. I already have some experience working with hardware but I find it interesting to learn about how networks operate within the business environment.

"I am very thankful to Karbon Homes for giving me this opportunity and to gain valuable experience. The organisation has gone through a lot of change and to be part of that has given me lots of encouragement and opportunities. It has been a constant stream of learning and adapting to new systems and programmes in the live environment and, with the merger of the business, it has been really interesting to see how our environments have evolved."
