Karbon's a winner at 24 Housing Diversity Awards

We are very proud to announce that Karbon Homes has won recognition at the nationwide Diversity in Housing Awards, presented by 24 Housing.

At a ceremony held in Birmingham, we were awarded the 'best HR Policy' prize for our New Parent Policy.

This aims to support all new parents to achieve a positive work/life balance, enabling our staff to fulfil their role whilst caring for their child or children, and goes significantly beyond the statutory minimum provision.

The policy includes Shared Parental Leave where Karbon mirrors occupational maternity/adoption pay enhancements for all individuals regardless of gender or whether they are in gay or straight relationships .

Through the New Parent Policy and Procedure, Karbon aims to create a positive and supportive working environment, supporting new parents in determining how best to care for their child in the first year.

In addition, our Flexible Working Policy allows employees across the organisation to request flexible working hours and patterns to suit their family life. Eg Changing their working hours to take young children to and from school.

The awards citation from the judges said Karbon displayed "wide-ranging initiatives that look to promote diversity and inclusion."

Sandy Swinhoe, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Officer at Karbon Homes, attended the awards ceremony and picked up the award.

She said: "I'm really proud to represent Karbon at such an inspiring event, and to win an award amongst such great nominees is a fantastic achievement for us."

Jennifer Flint, Assistant Director for People and OD at Karbon Homes, said: "We are committed to equality of opportunity and as an inclusive employer, we are dedicated to developing policies and procedures that support a healthy work/life balance.

"Karbon believes that offering individuals greater flexibility can increase employee motivation and morale, promote a better work life balance and support an individual's wellbeing."

Other finalists in this category were: Fortis Living, Peabody and Riverside, with Riverside being highly commended for its work.
