Durham Cricket Foundation and Karbon Foundation continue creative partnership for older residents

The Foundation and Karbon Foundation are continuing their partnership into a new financial year, with a renewed focus on creativity, connection and wellbeing for older residents across the North East.

The partnership, which supports residents aged 55 and over living in Karbon’s retirement living schemes, has continued to grow since it first launched in 2021 through Karbon Foundation’s community grants programme.

During the previous financial year, Durham Cricket Foundation delivered twenty one schemes of cricket and craft sessions, providing residents with regular opportunities to come together, try something new and enjoy time in the company of others.

Building on the success of the programme, the partnership will continue into 2026–27 with seven schemes focused exclusively on arts and crafts. The sessions are offering residents opportunities to get creative, learn new skills and enjoy a welcoming social environment within their communities.

Angela Sheridan, Foundation Inclusion Officer at Durham Cricket Foundation, said: “The craft sessions give residents the opportunity to be creative, try something different and most importantly, spend time together. The atmosphere is always so positive and it’s wonderful to see residents supporting each other, sharing ideas and taking pride in what they create.”

The partnership has become a valued part of community life for many residents, providing regular opportunities to socialise, build connections and enjoy creative activities close to home.

Graeme Weeks, Chief Executive at Durham Cricket Foundation, said: “We are delighted to continue our partnership with Karbon Homes and build on the success of the programme so far. Durham Cricket Foundation’s purpose remains the same - creating opportunities for people to come together, enjoy themselves and feel connected within their communities.”

“The response to the craft sessions has been fantastic and we are looking forward to continuing this work across seven schemes during the new financial year.”

Paul Moralee, Head of Community Investment and Social Value at Karbon Foundation, said: “We’re proud to continue our partnership with Durham Cricket Foundation and to support activities that bring residents together within our communities.

“The craft sessions have been a great way for residents to spend time together, try new things and build connections and we are looking forward to seeing the programme continue throughout 2026–27.”

Lisa, Activity Coordinator for Karbon Homes’ extra care scheme The Manors in Prudhoe, said: “We really liked crafts and took on board this project that Durham Cricket Foundation has been doing with us. They offered us six weeks, three weeks doing cricket activities and the other three weeks doing arts and crafts which had such an impact on our residents. They have embraced both activities and we had more and more residents coming to each session. The social side with the group activity and just being part of something like this has been so special.”

The new programme will see Durham Cricket Foundation deliver seven craft schemes across Karbon’s retirement living communities, with sessions designed to encourage creativity, social connection and participation.

The partnership reflects the shared commitment of Durham Cricket Foundation and Karbon Homes to creating inclusive opportunities that bring people together and contribute positively to wellbeing in later life.

Together, the organisations look forward to continuing to support residents through creative, community-focused sessions throughout the 2026–27 financial year.
