This week (3 - 9 June) is Volunteers' Week. It's a chance to say thank you for the amazing contributions volunteers make across the UK.
We wanted to share how we can support you to find volunteering opportunities.
What is Volunteers' Week?
Volunteers' Week sees stories shared on social media and hundreds of celebrations and events take place.
Every Volunteers' Week has a different theme. This helps organisations think about how they can open up volunteering opportunities to all. It also helps increase diversity in their volunteer base and trustees.
Volunteering has a positive impact on the lives of those who volunteer. It assists volunteers in gaining new skills and boosting self-esteem. There are many voluntary organisations in the UK that rely on volunteers to help others.
How we can help you volunteer
If you're interested in volunteering, our Employment Advisers can support you:
-
We can find volunteering opportunities and assist you in applying for them
-
We can speak to potential organisations about getting placements for volunteers. We can arrange suitable days/times with both volunteers and businesses
-
We can offer ‘in work/volunteering support’. This can let you know what to expect from your role and who to approach with your queries. We can also help you find out how you can get funding to get to and from a place or work and more
-
We can help develop skills with our sessions on customer service, maths/English and digital support
-
We work with our ‘Silver Talk’ who provide a friends on the phone service for people aged 50+. They offer volunteering opportunities and placements
-
We can support with funding for equipment/clothing/transport etc
Volunteering opportunities can give employers a taste of a candidates work ethic. They can sometimes lead to paid employment.
