Karbon backs Oasis Community Housing's Christmas 'Giving a Home' campaign

As many as 300,000 households are facing homelessness this winter.

From thousands sleeping on cold streets, to women fleeing domestic abuse, and vulnerable families struggling to pay the rent. It doesn’t have to be this way.

Once again, we're proud to be supporting Oasis Community Housing and their Giving a Home Campaign.

The campaign is enabling Oasis Community Housing to continue being a life-line for people facing homelessness throughout winter and beyond, tackling people’s immediate needs and the root causes of homelessness.

For every £2,000 raised through the Christmas appeal, a gingerbread person will move into the gingerbread house; enabling Oasis to provide a home and tailored support. The more gingerbread people in the house, the more real people Oasis are able to help.

Alongside our North East construction and housing peers, TolentMeldrum Construction Services and Gentoo Group, we've pledged our support to help people find warmth, safety and belonging,

This has included colleagues from our Community Investment team spending mornings at the Oasis gingerbread house at Tesco Trinity Square, Gateshead, helping to spread the word of the campaign and support with funding raising.

The campaign is running till the 31st December, so there's still time to donate to the campaign. Visit www.givingahome.org.uk

Oasis Community Housing at work

Marta and her family, who fled racial abuse, found themselves at Oasis Community Housings drop-in centre with their belongings in bags at their feet.

Marta turned up cradling her pet rabbit. The team arranged emergency accommodation for that night.

Marta and her family were safely transported to their short term home, food was arranged for the family - not forgetting the pets. Marta was incredibly grateful for the warmth and speed of the support texting the team that night to say thank you.

A few days later they were moved to more suitable long term accommodation where they could put down roots.

Oasis Community Housing were able to support Marta and her family so they can begin to piece their lives back together again.
