We've teamed up with NE Youth, Youth Focus North East and Share Foundation to raise awareness of unclaimed Child Trust Funds and Junior ISAs in the North East.
There are an estimated 37,000 accounts in the North East that haven’t been claimed, could they belong to you or young people you work with?
Young people born in the UK between 1 September 2002 - 2 January 2011 (15-23 years), will have had a Child Trust Fund set up with £250 from the government. This was to make sure they have some money when they turn 18, to spend on things they need or to save and earn interest for their future.
Any young person who has been in care for more than 12 months after 2 January 2011 without moving out of the system, will have a Junior ISA account. The Government put in £200 in the account when it was opened, the amount may have gone up or down slightly, but there will be money waiting for them when they turn 18. We know that this money can make such a big difference, especially if they are just about to leave care.
If you think you or someone you know is entitled to claim either of these accounts, please head to Share Foundation's website or get in touch with the Money Matters Team on 0800 164 0111 or email moneymatters@karbonhomes.co.uk.
