We've completed 20 new affordable homes in Forest Hall, North Tyneside, helping local people take their first steps onto the property ladder.
The new homes, built on the site of the former Fusilier pub, comprise a mix of 12 three-bed houses and eight two-bed apartments, all available under the Rent to Buy scheme, an affordable route to home ownership.
Through the scheme, customers benefit from rents set at 20% below the average market rent for the area for five years, to enable them to save a deposit to buy the home outright at the end of the period.

To mark the completion of the homes, we welcomed Councillor John Harrison, Cabinet Member for Housing at North Tyneside Council, and Richard Brook, North Tyneside Council's Head of Housing Strategy and Growth, to visit the development and met with representatives from our construction delivery team.

"It is great to see these high-quality new homes completed in Forest Hall, providing local people with an affordable route into home ownership. Schemes such as Rent to Buy help address one of the biggest challenges facing many residents by giving them the opportunity to save for a deposit while living in a home they can eventually purchase.
"This development has transformed the former Fusilier public house site, delivering energy-efficient homes that will help residents reduce their living costs while supporting our environmental ambitions. We are committed to increasing the supply of affordable housing across North Tyneside and welcome investment that helps more people access the secure, high-quality homes they need to thrive."
The homes form part of our ongoing commitment to investing in communities and increasing the availability of affordable housing across the North East and Yorkshire.
All the homes are built to the highest energy efficiency standards, all achieving an EPC A rating. All are powered by air source heat pumps and are fitted with solar PV panels and EV charging points.
The delivery of the scheme was supported with funding through our Strategic Partnership with the government’s housing and regeneration agency Homes England under its Affordable Homes Programme (AHP) 2021-26. The strategic partnership provided us with £184 million in funding to deliver 2,327 new affordable homes across the North East and Yorkshire by 2028.
We have has once again been granted Strategic Partnership status under Homes England’s next Social and Affordable Homes Programme 2026-36. Through a consortium with believe housing, Bernicia, Durham Aged Miners Homes Association and Livin, the partners have £350m in funding to deliver 2,533 homes across the region.
