Karbon Homes is investing £855,000 in refurbishing homes at South View Gardens in Stanley, County Durham. This is the latest in an ongoing programme of investment by Karbon to bring older homes up to modern standards to meet the current and changing needs of our customers.
South View Gardens is a development of 14 two-bed bungalows and five three-bed houses built in the 1960s. These refurbishment works have transformed the properties, with a clear focus on providing high quality, modern homes, with works including new kitchens, bathrooms, wet rooms, windows and electrical upgrades.
Additional insulation has been installed, gardens have been landscaped, and the homes have been redecorated throughout. As part of Karbon's ongoing commitment to tackling damp and mould, the project has included external groundworks, internal damp-proofing measures and the installation of Positive Input Ventilation (PIV) systems and extractor fans to improve the airflow within customers' homes.
Steven Colby, Head of Investment at Karbon Homes, comments: "We are thrilled to see this important refurbishment project come to fruition. We have spent around £45,000 upgrading each property and we are delighted with the results – the homes look great both inside and out, and feedback from customers has been really positive. Ten of the homes are already finished and the final works will be completed by December.
Karbon Homes owns and manages one in four homes in Stanley and has invested £12 million over the last two years in improving homes there as part of its 'Thriving Stanley Action Plan', launched in 2024.

Over the last two years we have installed over 400 new kitchens and nearly 500 new roofs to homes across the town, as well as improving the energy efficiency of some of our properties to reduce customers’ bills and carbon emissions. We believe in shaping strong, sustainable places for our communities, and we will continue to invest in Stanley over the coming years."
