Infrared Innovation

A few years ago, we shared a story about a new infrared heating panel system that we’re piloting in homes in North Shields.

This greener, energy saving solution was installed in the lounge, hallways and bedrooms of twelve properties to replace old, inefficient storage heaters. The aim was to see if it could provide an environmentally friendly system that would reduce the impact of fossil fuels, heat homes more efficiently and reduce household bills.

As the trial comes to a close, we caught up with one of our customers who took part to see if it had the desired impact.

“The old storage heaters were expensive to use, the heat was inconsistent and they looked unsightly.

“The panels are a vast improvement. They are easy to use, provide instant heat and look good.

“The installation was professional, the workers were friendly and they explained how to operate the new system.

“I haven’t noticed a reduction in my electricity costs. This is due to the fact that I still have an old meter. This will need to be replaced to see if it does make a difference to my bills.

“That said, I’m pleased that Karbon Homes is providing an environmentally friendly solutions to heating. I would recommend the panels to others.”

Overall, customers with the panels were happy with the system.

We’re now looking at the possibility of installing more infrared panels in our homes. If this does happen, we’ll support customers with changing their electricity meter and tariffs and making any other energy efficient improvements to properties. This will maximise the impact of the system, reducing the cost of heating homes whilst keeping them even warmer.

The infrared heating panel pilot is part of our Response to Climate Change – this is our commitment to creating a sustainable environment for current and future generations. Find out more here.
