Fix it
With the season of giving just around the corner, we’re bringing 12 deeds of Christmas back to celebrate the good neighbours and community heroes.
The 12 deeds of Christmas is a chance to give a big thank you to the individuals or groups who have gone the extra mile to help others.
Each weekday, throughout December, we'll be recognising and rewarding a different community star.
We have two categories:
Is there someone who lives on your street or somewhere nearby who has been a big help to you this year?
Maybe it’s someone who has helped you personally, or someone who is known for uplifting people’s spirits with acts of kindness, their selflessness, or with entertainment and good fun.
The nominees must either be a Karbon customer or a person who has had a big impact on Karbon customers.
Charities, organisations and local community projects have been delivering amazing work in the community. We want to hear about the groups and the individuals behind them that have been your heroes through this.
Maybe they’ve delivered food, supplies, or prescriptions, offered support to you or someone in your household, or provided a break from reality through entertainment and fun.
The nominees must be located within a community which Karbon works in or have had a big impact on Karbon customers.
From all the nominations we receive 12 will be chosen, 6 from each category, and each will receive a thank you to the value of £100.
Nominations have now closed - stay tuned to find out who has been given one of this year's Community Stars.

We've got a triple win for our next Community Star which goes to the charity Miners Lamp Café and Community Hub, its owner Russ Grieg (pictured) and volunteer Lesley Ineson.
Miners Lamp Cafe was nominated by Donna Liddle for “Their outstanding contribution to the community with their food bank, café and the activities they run helps to bring the community together in difficult times.”
Lesley was nominated by Councillor Jane Johnson:
“Lesley works tirelessly as a volunteer at Miners Lamp, Eastwood Park and helps at Prudhoe Plodders Running Club. Nothing deters her from helping in the community.”
And Russ was nominated by Fiona Wardlaw because “Russ IS Miners Lamp – cook, funder, cleaner, friend, carer, support worker. He goes above and beyond what’s asked of him and will help and support people. He’s a kind, selfless, honest and genuine man who puts others first every time, no self glory. A great bloke.”
Such a fantastic charity supported by people who clearly have a lot of love and passion for their community. Thank you to everyone at Miners Lamp Cafe, Lesley and Russ - you're all stars!
Angela 'Angie' Comerford is co-founder of Community Food Bank and Crisis Response Team Hebburn Helps. They were nominated by Carole Hills for going above and beyond for the people of South Tyneside.
Carole said:
“Not only with food banks and charity shops, but cooking up a storm and delivering home cooked meals to the most vulnerable people.
“Anything this woman can do she will, be it food to furniture or clothing. Angie and her team take time to deliver if you can’t get to them.
“Angie has also done numerous sponsored walks including the three peaks and Hadrian’s Wall, pushing herself to the limit to earn cash to help others.
“Angie is often out and about amongst the homeless dishing out hot food and drinks; she is just an all-round
selfless caring person.
“Hebburn Helps also works with the youth and community throughout Tyneside offering a safe space at the Den and a warm space for those who need it.
“They run numerous appeals including Santa toys and feed an O.A.P for Christmas alongside everything else
they do throughout the year."
A fantastic woman and an amazing organisation doing incredible work for their communities and we're thrilled to be able to give you a Community Star.
We've got a lovely story to round off the 12 deeds of Christmas.
Emily Ritchie was nominated by her mum Lauren (pictured with Emily) for a wonderful act of kindness:
“My daughter who is 6 years old decided to collect hats and scarves for homeless people. After a particularly cold spell she was very concerned about the welfare of people who were not as lucky as her. She decided she wanted to help.
“She wrote a letter to her head teacher and asked if the school could help her complete her mission! Her lovely headteacher posted it on their social media page and with the help of the school, Emily was able to collect 25 hats and 2 scarves.
“She has since passed these items to Darren McMahon at Pact House as he is working with the charity North East Homeless.”
We were so touched by this story that we decided to give our an extra Young Community Star to Emily.
