Karbon Homes shortlisted in North East Charity Awards
We’re delighted that our partnership with the charity, Building Self-Belief CIO, has been shortlisted as a finalist in the North East Charity Awards.
Building Self-Belief is a fantastic charity, focussed on improving the wellbeing of young people throughout County Durham through building self-confidence and helping them realise their full potential.
Our collaborative programmes have centred around increasing skills and aspirations, as well as reducing social isolation and addressing barriers. They have had a huge impact on the lives of hundreds of young people over the last four years.
Paul Moralee, Karbon Homes’ Head of Community Investment and Social Value, said: “We are really pleased that the important work that Building Self-Belief delivers has been recognised by the judges. Our partnership began back in 2022 when we worked together to establish the Consett Youth Panel, aimed at empowering young people to help build a stronger local community. Since then, we’ve worked together to engage young people in heritage, environmental, and community gardening projects, as well as hosting successful skills and careers events.
“We have also provided £13,000 of funding from Karbon Homes’ Unlocking Social Value Fund to help transform a run-down former dancehall into a new community building which now provides a vibrant hub for many different activities, from a youth club to wellbeing workshops and digital inclusion support.”
“Building-Self Belief has transformed many lives throughout our partnership and we are delighted to contribute to the important work they deliver.”
More recently, through our Place programme we funded Building Self-Belief’s ‘Celebrating Stanley’ project, which explored local heritage and identity. The project engaged with primary and secondary school students, residents and key stakeholders from Stanley to capture and celebrate the town’s rich history and highlight how this heritage could shape Stanley’s future. A collection of anthologies, podcasts and an interactive timeline were created by local people and shared in December 2025.
