Residents and colleagues across our supported housing schemes have been showcasing their baking talents and raising vital funds through Macmillan Coffee Mornings.
Macmillan's Coffee Morning is the charity's biggest fundraising event, supporting people living with cancer. Every year, people across the UK host their own coffee mornings, with donations helping Macmillan continue its essential work.
Our Extra Care scheme, The Manors in Prudhoe, held its first-ever Great Manors Bake Off, featuring cake entries from both residents and colleagues. The winning bake came from resident Helen (pictured below).

The Manors joined forces with Michelle Robinson, a friend and responder at the scheme, to organise the event. Michelle sadly lost her husband to prostate cancer last year, so the work that Macmillan does is particularly close to her heart.
Alongside the Bake Off, the team hosted a raffle and tombola organised by Michelle and her daughter, featuring some fantastic prizes. Visitors also enjoyed a Macmillan coffee afternoon before rounding off the day with a performance from singer Miranda Newton.
In the last three weeks, Michelle has raised an incredible £1,405 for Macmillan. With the support of our residents and the local community, a further £1,260 was added to the total.
Meanwhile, our Extra Care scheme The Elms in Chester-le-Street smashed its previous fundraising record, raising £524.65 at its annual Macmillan event.
Responder staff Tracy, Amy and Carol-Anne did an amazing job running the stalls alongside Carol from the Knit & Natter group. The Elms Residents' Choir also performed on the day, together with a brilliant performance from the scheme's new Extra Care Coordinator, Kevin Hoey.

At Weavers Court in Alnwick, residents and colleagues raised £304.85 through a coffee morning in aid of hospice care, which included a cake stall, raffle, and refreshments.
Over at St Cuthberts Close in Hexham, a coffee morning raised £330.60. Visitors enjoyed a tombola, a 'Guess how many sweets are in the jar' competition, a 'Name the teddy' game, and a tea, coffee, cake and biscuit stall.
Scheme Coordinator Lynn Taylor spent the evening before the event baking cakes for the occasion.
Lynn said: "They went down a treat. Everyone said I should bake once a week and bring them into work!"
At Lawson House in Byker, Housing Plus Officer Irene Ryner organised a breast cancer awareness fundraiser featuring a wonderful range of cakes and bakes, including a beautifully decorated Cancer Awareness Cake. The event raised £150.

A huge well done to everyone who organised, hosted, attended and supported these fantastic events. Together, you have raised thousands of pounds for causes that make a real difference to people affected by cancer. Thank you for helping to support such an important cause.
