Karbon has been named Homebuilder of the Year at the Northern Housing Awards 2026, recognising a year of record delivery in 2024/2025, innovation and commitment to sustainable, customer‑focused development across the North East and Yorkshire.
The award celebrates what was a record year for the Group, completing 707 new homes in the 2024/25 financial year.
Nearly a quarter (22%) were built using modern methods of construction, such as light gauge steel and timber frame and close to half (44%) of homes achieved EPC A, with the remaining all achieving a B rating.
Judges praised Karbon’s commitment to social value, using its contracts and suppliers to create opportunities that improve lives and strengthen communities, and also highlighted the organisation’s investment in smart technology, particularly in homes for older residents to help support independence and social connection.
Innovation was a major theme of Karbon’s submission. At Seaham Garden Village, where Karbon is delivering half of the total homes for affordable tenures, homes will be heated by a mine water district heating system, a groundbreaking approach to sustainable energy.
Karbon also impressed with its expanding programme of Extra Care schemes across the region, providing specialist homes for older people and adults with complex needs which help reduce reliance on expensive residential care and promote independent living.
Sarah Robson, Executive Director of Development and Asset Management, said: "I'm delighted that Karbon won the Homebuilder of the Year 2026 award at the Northern Housing Awards. I particularly love that the award is not just about houses, but homes - which is what we build in order to provide a strong foundation for life.
"Well done and a big thank you to all the colleagues who contributed to our win. At a time of huge housing need, we are ambitious to do so much more."
