Our community support recognised for going the extra mile

Our commitment to community investment has been recognised on a regional stage as the organisation bags a win at annual charity awards.

We were named winner of the Outstanding Charity Support by Large Companies Award at the annual North East Charity Awards, an accolade that recognises companies who go above and beyond to support charities or community groups in the region.

Ian Johnson, Executive Director of Customer Services at Karbon Homes, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to have taken home this award, which recognises our work to help shape strong, sustainable places for our communities and offer support to help them thrive.

“Working in partnership with local charities and community projects is key in us achieving this and we work hard to build strong relationships which help create positive change. This award not only recognises our organisation but all our partners who make a real difference to people's lives.”

During the 2021/2022 financial year, through its community investment fund, Karbon’s Community Investment Team supported 70 community initiatives of varying shapes and sizes, totaling close to £270,000.

This included a £20,000 grant to Feeding Families, a food poverty support charity, to fund food boxes for those in crisis, and a partnership with If U Care Share, a charity that supports families affected by suicide, providing a £20,000 grant to run suicide awareness sessions in local secondary schools.

Colleagues from Karbon were joined by partner Feeding Families at the awards ceremony.

Juliet Sanders, Founder of Feeding Families, said: “It’s fantastic to see Karbon Homes named winner of the Outstanding Charity Support by Large Companies Award. It’s so well deserved and recognises the help Karbon has given and continues to give to charities, projects and community initiatives across the region.

“Karbon Homes was the first funder to give Feeding Families a significant amount of money back in 2020, believing in the work we were doing and remaining supportive throughout our journey.

This gave us a platform to grow from and has allowed us to keep building and I can honestly say we would not be where we are without Karbon Homes. That’s why it's so great to see the organisation receive recognition on a wider scale.”

The North East Charity Awards celebrates the best of the region's voluntary sector and the people and organisations that support them.
