Developed by Karbon Homes in partnership with South Tyneside Council, Griffin Court will provide 95 modern apartments designed to help people live independently while having access to care and support when needed.
What is Extra Care?
Extra Care housing offers something different to traditional residential care. Residents have their own front door and their own self-contained home, while benefiting from a safe and supportive environment, community facilities, social activities and on-site care.
The scheme includes:
• 95 apartments for rent
• Specialist dementia-friendly accommodation
• Communal lounges and social spaces
• Café and hairdressing facilities
• Regular activities and events

• Care and support available 24 hours a day
• Facilities designed to promote wellbeing and independence
Who is Griffin Court for?
Griffin Court is intended for people aged 18 and over who have an assessed care and support need and would benefit from living in a supportive environment while remaining independent.
Applicants may include:
• Older people needing additional support
• Adults with physical disabilities
• People living with dementia
• Adults with learning disabilities
• People with mental health or sensory support needs
Priority may be given to individuals who would otherwise be at risk of needing residential care but can continue to live independently with the right support in place.
